Reflection: Bloggers need protection from hatred, discrimination and prejudice TOO!

July 28, 2016.

This is not actually the first time I wrote about being victimized by hatred, discrimination and prejudice as a blogger. As early as my first month blogging for Beauty On A Shoestring Budget (2011), I already get threats from random people out in the public.

It happens alot and no, I'm not a feeling celebrity. I'm a very private person and hate being in the spotlight, I'd avoid it as much as I can. But it cannot be avoided since I have several causes that I fight for -- rats as pets, championing local brands, photography as art and hobby, inspiring people to be true to themselves, and for people to pursue their dreams.

I'm also a person of high work ethics, honor and integrity. I value honesty, which people mostly perceive as rudeness. But integrity always comes first over being socially acceptable. Weird if you may call me.

Bloggers need protection from hatred, discrimination and prejudice. Sometimes when people assume to know everything about us, whether they are small or powerful people, their assumptions and judgment lead them to self righteous acts of prejudice, discrimination and hate. Some of them violent, others more subtle and below the belt.

People may laugh at my demise, but it only shows their true character, because they mirror the qualities they judge and attack people for.

This is not about one particular event that happened recently, but I'm speaking generally of my experiences in the past too.

Before I started blogging in 2010, I was weary that my privacy would be invaded in the future (thus it is true nowadays), but I was determined to blog for a cause, not for any monetary reward or freebie. Yes, at the very beginning there was the 'adventurous spirit' that made me want to be in places, but I always stuck to my niche.

It's really sad to think that these things happen in real life. I do not know what leads people to think negative about me, but particularly my honesty, even if I have done nothing wrong. I uphold my honor and refuse to let these people, who I do not know personally, to silence me through their attacks.

Instead of making pairal the mentality of crab, why not pairal the mentality of individualism, honor and integrity? Maybe this will make the world a better place to live.

My goal was always to be a role model, no matter how small people think my influence is -- and to give empowerment to people, that they are worth something in this world through the talents and hobbies that they are blessed with. So to all who read this, please do not be afraid to pursue your dreams. And as I always say... #BeInspired

Love,

Rattus xoxo
